Winter Activities

The Off-Season (winter months of Nov - Feb) is one of the best times to be in the Zion National Park area. The temperatures are cooler but comfortable on most days. You may need only a t-shirt in the afternoon in January. Skies are generally clear in this area and the sun shines daily.

There are a lot of great things about Zion National Park in the winter. Here are just a few of them:

  • No Shuttle in the winter – so you can drive your own vehicle into the main canyon to any point you choose.
  • Highway 9 (through the park) is open year round and the upper section of highway 9 in and outside the park is always kept clear of any snow (seldom an issue in winter)
  • Off-season savings – Rates in the winter are lower and there are less people.
  • Cooler temperatures make hiking much more enjoyable.
  • Cable Mountain Horseback Ride – Enjoy our ride to the rim of the canyon. The view from the top is amazing!
  • Buffalo are majestic in heavy winter coats
  • Winter package available – Click Here - See Other Packages - Click Here Snowmobiling is readily available within 40 minutes

The following activities are available in winter months and all can be done within 40 minutes drive of Zion Mountain Ranch. The Virgin River Rim sits just to the north of Zion Mountain and water from this high plateau feeds the Virgin River that has carved Zion National Park.

Snowmobiling
The complex of trails on Cedar Mountain is extensive and
snowmobiling enthusiasts will enjoy a half-day or full-day snowmobile rental
opportunity. Trails extend through the Dixie National Forest and over large
lava fields that, when covered in deep snow, make for exciting playgrounds
on board a snowmobile.

Cross Country Skiing / Snow shoeing
Our outfitters can guide you on a wintertime adventure of cross country skiing or snow shoeing in the Dixie National Forest. Call us in advance to make arrangements. Guided tours are based on the number of people and reservations need to be made in advance. You can stay in the milder climate and elevation at Zion Mountain Ranch and then venture up for a day or more into forest at elevations ranging from 8,000 to 10,000 feet.

For snowmobiling or the quieter experiences of cross country skiing or snow shoeing, the views in the forest and along mountain rims are absolutely breathtaking. You'll enjoy the majestic grandeur of these mountain activities and solitude of these adventures.
